Hawthorn Hawks or the Hawthorn Football Club is an important member of the Australian Football League. The Hawthorn Hawk club is also popularly known as �The Hawks�. The club was originally based at Glenferie Oval, an inner suburban area of Melbourne but has now shifted its base to the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The official club song of the Hawthorn Hawk club is �We�re a happy team at Hawthorn�. The official jersey colour is vertical stripes of brown and gold with the logo of a hawk on it.

The Hawthorn Hawk club has a proud heritage and historical significance as it has grown from a small club based in the suburban area and has now become one of the strongest contenders in the national league. The official date of the establishment of Hawthorn Hawk club is not pretty clear and subjected to much speculation. The Hawthorn Hawk Football Club entered the VFA in the year 1914. The Hawthorn Hawk club joined the VFL comparatively later in the year 1925. The Hawthorn Hawk club made its debut in the premiership Grand Final match in the year 1961 and even won the match. The team was also nicknamed The Mayblooms for their casual and laid-back attitude. This name changed when in 1943 they made it to the finals.

In 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989 and 1991 Hawthorn Hawks club continued their victorious journey in the Premiership Grand Final matches. By the end of 2006 season, the Hawthorn Hawk club finished 11th and in the present season of 2007 they did a disastrous start. But they soon regained back their position and defeated Western Bulldogs at Telstra Dome in Round 21.

In total, Hawthorn Hawk has won 9 Premierships and 9 �night series� premierships which is the highest league record. Some of the most famous Australian footballers have donned the Hawthorn Hawk jersey and brought fame to the team. The Hawthorn Hawk team members like John Platten, Col Austen and Shane Crawford have won the Brownlow medal. The Leigh Matthew award has been won by Russell Greene, Shane Crawford, Leigh Matthew and Jason Dunstall. Coleman Medal has been won by Leigh Matthews, John Peck, Peter Hudson and Jason Dunstall. The Norm Smith Medal has been won by Paul Dear, Colin Robertson and Gary Ayres. The Hawthorn Hawk the Australian Hall of Fame comprises of players like Darren Jarman, Michael Tuck, Jason Dunstall, Peter Hudson, Leigh Matthews and Robert Dipierdomenico.

The present captain of the Hawthorn Hawk club is Richard Vandenberg and coach is Alastair Clarkson. Currently, after the 22 season, the Hawthorn Hawk team is ranked at number 4th on the ladder.
