Murray Bridge is a South Australian city which is located on the south-eastern part of Adelaide and north of Meningie. It is situated north of Lake Alexandrina and is about 26 metres above the sea level. Murray Bridge is a thriving city and has an extensive rural centre spreading across the town.

The Murray Bridge area was initially inhabited by the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal tribes. The first European to explore Murray Bridge region was Captain Charles Sturt who travelled in a whale boat and reached the junction with Murray River in the year 1830. He continued further with his journey and reached Lake Alexandria on 9 February 1830. it was then he realised that Murray River could be used for transportation purposes, however, it was not until the completion of a road bridge over Murray River in 1879 that the Murray Bridge city developed. The city was laid down in1883 and was initially known as Mobilong, then was called Edwards Crossing and in 1924 came to be known as Murray Bridge after the new rail bridge was constructed across the Murray River.

Murray Bridge enjoys a Mediterranean type of climate which is characterised by dry, hot summers and wet, cold winters. During summers, the temperatures soar up to 30�C and in winters the average temperatures drop down to 14�C or lesser. The average rainfall is lesser than that of Adelaide and is about 150mm.

Murray Bridge is well-served by the Murray road bridge and the rail-bridge which was built in 1927. The Adelaide to Melbourne railway line was set up in 1886 and is one of the major connectors of Murray Bridge. The Goolwa port also serves the region with regular ferry services.
