Dubbo is a city which lies on the central-western part of New South Wales, Australia. It is considered to be the intersection point of New South Wales. Dubbo is a typical country town of Australia which acts as the industrial, commercial and administrative hub of Central West. Dubbo is situated on Macquarie River, 264 metres above sea level and lies on the intersection point of Newell and Mitchell Highways.

The first Europeans who arrived on Dubbo were the John Oxley party who came in 1818. Before that the Wiradjuri people were regarded as the original inhabitants of the land. The first permanent settler of Dubbo was Robert Dulhunty who named the southern part of the present townsite as Dubbo. Gradually the population in the area increased and in 1846 the government was established in the city. In 1872, Dubbo gained the status of a municipality and had a population of 850 people. After the Second World War, the city saw rapid progress and was given the status of a city in 1966.

Dubbo has a temperate type of climate which is characterized by warm summers and cool winters. During summers, the temperatures range from 17�C to 33�C and during winters temperatures drop down to 3�C. Dubbo is located between the Central Tablelands and the Western Plains and this provides substantial amount of rainfall to the region. The average amount of rainfall is 584.8mm and the wettest month is January.

The town of Dubbo is served by the daily CountryLink XPT train service which connects Dubbo to Sydney. Dubbo has a regional airport which has daily flights to Brisbane, Sydney, Broken Hill, Melbourne and other New South Wales towns. The city also has well-built roads connecting Dubbo to major Australian cities.
